Description: Luteolin is a yellow crystalline compound. It is one of the more common flavones. Luteolin is most often found in leaves, but it is also seen in celery, thyme, dandelion, rinds, barks, clover blossom and ragweed pollen. It has also been isolated from Salvia tomentosa. Dietary sources include celery, green pepper, thyme, perilla, chamomile tea, carrots, olive oil, peppermint, rosemary, navel oranges and oregano.
Function:
1. Antioxidant. It is twice stronger than that of vitamin E. Luteolin is a significantly more potent antioxidant than the BHT.
2. Stronger scavenging properties for superoxide radicals.
3. Anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anticancer, and immune-modulating properties to suppress hyperactive immune systems.
4. Luteolin is a potent hypoglycemic agent and improves insulin sensitivity.
5. Luteolin may help promote healthy blood glucose levels and help in weight management for Syndrome X.
