Product Description
How The Centrifuge Oil Cleaner Works
Typically in a diesel engine, less than 10% of pressurized oil flow is fed through the centrifuge inlet port. Oil enters the rotors assembly though a central spindle. The rotor chamber becomes pressurized and the oil exits the rotor via 2 tangentially opposed nozzles in the rotor base. The action of oil exiting through the nozzles gives the rotor reverse directional speed, its RPM begins directly, proportional to the inlet oil pressure and flow. Two precision-machined bushes allow it to spin smoothly around the spindle journals, generating high rotational speeds.
These high rotational speeds, allow Filtek centrifuges to generate powerful centrifugal forces, which act on the contamination particles in suspension within the oil. The contaminant, having higher density than the oil is compacted against the inner rotor valve, forming a layer of contamination deposits (cake), which can easily be cleaned during the service interval. With only the contaminant requiring disposal the filter can be quickly reassembled and put back into service.
The centrifuge has no consumable parts and is capable of removing particulate contamination from oil and fluids to sub-micron levels. This gives it an advantage over conventional barrier media filtration. Analysis of dirt collected by Filtek centrifuge, reveals an ability to remove particles of less than one micron in size. Particles of this size range can bind together (agglomerate) and cause damage between critical engine wear surfaces.
With the fitment of Filtek Centrifuge no noticeable pressure drop is observed in the oil circuit, even after the rotor chamber is filled with contaminant. The centrifuge continues to collect dirt contaminant with the same efficiency, until its rotor chamber is full. Filtek centrifuges can complement your existing system by extending oil and service intervals and reducing the conventional filter change frequencies. These can be selected as OEM fitment, or retrofitted to suit your requirements.
