Oil of turpentine, is obtained by steam distillation from turpentine, an oleoresin obtained from Pinus sylvestris, Linn. (N.O. Coniferae), and other species of Pinus growing in America, France, Russia, and elsewhere. It is also official in the U. S. P. It occurs as a colourless, limpid liquid, having a strong peculiar odour, and a pungent, somewhat bitter taste, both becoming stronger and less pleasant by age and exposure to air.
